The Insurance Store (TIS) is proud to host our annual MS Walk and company BBQ. Multiple Sclerosis currently affects nearly 1 million Americans. The founders of TIS, Norven and Cheryl Storrs, were personally affected by MS, when one of their daughters, Tina Monson, was diagnosed with the disease. Additionally, our staff member Tyler Connolly has been directed impacted by this disease because his father battles it. The MS Foundation continues to be near and dear to the heart of our company. We combine the walk and the company BBQ to celebrate and honor the memory of Norven Storrs’ birth, which was on the 4th of July, and to raise awareness for MS.
This year’s event was primarily held in Mission Point Park in San Diego. For anyone in one of our remote offices, they were able to do the walk in their location. As a group, we had 79 people participate and together walk 237 miles. We were excited to welcome family and friends to the event to learn more about how MS impacts those around us.
The Multiple Sclerosis Foundation exists to provide programs and support services to those persons affected by MS. MS has been called the second most expensive chronic disease. The unpredictable nature of the symptoms, the cost of treatment, and the progressive nature of the disease (which often adversely affects employment) all contribute to this growing problem. Our goal is to not only raise money for the foundation to combat these issues, but to raise awareness for those not directly affected by this disease in hopes of bringing more light and attention to it.
After the walk, we were able to enjoy a BBQ, followed by a corn hole tournament, volleyball games, spike ball, and some fun games for our little ones. It was great to see our work family get to know our husbands, wives, children, parents, and friends.
While the MS Foundation is our monthly charity for July, it is also one of our quarterly recipients of funds donated by TIS in our clients’ names when they refer a new client to us.
